"After going nowhere for five innings against Central Kitsap High School pitcher Eric Dickinson, the Olympic Trojans decided to go the other way.Oly got seven of its nine hits in the last two innings and came from behind to beat the Cougars 5-3 in Olympic League action Tuesday at CK's Huey Field. The success came when they decided to stop trying to pull Dickinson, a left-hander.You've got to take what they give you, Olympic coach Robin Campbell said of the ploy, which helped the Trojans reach Dickinson for three hits in the sixth inning - including a two-run opposite-field home run by Kyle Anderson that staked them to a 3-1 lead.For us, it was a question of being patient and being able to go the other way when we had to, Campbell said. It was very important for us that we were able to execute at the plate.All three of Oly's hits in the sixth - Austin Hendershot and David Murphy led off with singles before Anderson's one-out clout - were to the right of second base.The Trojans scored two more runs off reliever Aaron Logue in the seventh inning, Josh Adams' double up the left field line pushing in Hendershot and Murphy with what proved to be the winning runs. Greg Hlebechuk took Oly starter Aaron Meites over the right field fence for a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh, but it was too little, too late.They earned it today, Cougar coach Ryan Rongcal said of the Trojans, who improved to 4-5 in league play. They did a good job of hitting the ball to the opposite field, and they showed a lot of patience. Dickinson's the best pitcher we have, and we try to get as much out of him as possible. I think he got a little tired in the sixth inning.The Cougs had a tough time on offense against Meites, who struck out nine and allowed just three hits before being touched for the homer by Hlebechuk with one out in the seventh and yielding to releiver Joe Dixon.Even struggling as they did, the Cougars - who scored an unearned run in the second for the early lead - kept themselves in the thick of the contest.It was very CK-Oly-ish, Campbell grinned of the hotly contested game, played in shirtsleeve weather. You never know how it's going to turn out until the last out.CK kept the suspense up after falling behind 3-1. Leadoff hitter Matt Lingenbrink led off CK's half of the sixth with an infield single and stole second, scoring later on a throwing error. The Cougs loaded the bases on another infield single and a hit batsman before Hendershot handled Josh Miller's slow roller to short and threw him out to end the rally.The Cougs actually got the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh with a two-out rally after Hlebechuk's homer. Steve Derrig and Dickinson coaxed back-to-back walks from Dixon, who then got designated hitter Neal Brunson to fly out to shallow center for the final out.Campbell said the result might signal that his team has turned a corner.We've had a few close games this season, but we haven't been getting it done offensively, he said. The pitching has been outstanding - we have a bunch of guys we know can keep us close. We're not walking people, and we're only allowing about three runs a game.With some clutch hitting like the Trojans got Tuesday, Campbell said, better things might be looming."
