Plenty of ways to celebrate the Fourth in Kitsap

Jun 28 2008

Whether it’s carnival games and pie-eating contests or parades and professional displays of fireworks, there’s plenty of ways to celebrate the Fourth of July in Kitsap County, you just need to know where to go.

From Keyport to Port Orchard, and a variety of places in between, local communities will be celebrating Independence Day with plenty of safe activities for the entire family. We hope this list will help you with your plans for celebrating the holiday.

Keyport — The small community of Keyport will be observing Independence Day in a big way with old-fashioned fun and games. The day starts with a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon at the Keyport Bible Church; prices range from $3 to $5. The town’s annual parade kicks off at 1 p.m. The community is invited to bring their bicycles and join in the fun. After the parade, the public is invited to enjoy free hamburgers and hot dogs as well as carnival games, relay races and more.

Port Orchard — The city’s eight-day Fathoms O’ Fun Festival culminates July 4 with the “4th of July Sinclair Inlet Fireworks Show,” which can be seen throughout Port Orchard as well as from Bremerton and the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. The fireworks display draws more than 60,000 people.

Poulsbo — The Nordic city is getting a jump-start on the holiday with its “3rd of July Celebration.” The day will be filled with entertainment and food followed by an evening of fireworks lighting up Liberty Bay.

Kingston — Make your way to downtown on the Fourth of July and you’ll be greeted with a parade at noon with a theme of “From Sea to Shining Sea.” Other day’s events include a variety of individual stage performances beginning at 4 p.m. followed by fireworks in the Appletree Cove.

Bainbridge Island — The city gets twice the fun out of the Fourth of July with two events. The first is the “July 3rd Street Dance and BBQ” from 6 to 11 p.m. featuring a celebration of local musicians and island traditions.

The all-day “Grand Old Fourth Celebration” kicks off the next day with a street fair, classic car show, music, food and more.
