BECU introduces new ATM technology

The Boeing Employees Credit Union is making life easier at its ATMs.
BECU recently installed snap-shot technology into its ATMs, which allows customers to avoid envelopes or deposit slips when making deposits.
“We are still going through the education process of teaching people how to use it,” manager James Wilder said. “The people at BECU were really excited we had it.”
When depositing cash, customers can place a stack of bills in the machine, instead of processing the bills one by one. The cash is immediately counted and the total is sent instantly to BECU, which eliminates the normal lag time in the transaction.
“It says that you can use up to 30 bills at a time, but I’ve been able to use even more than that,” Wilder said.
The process is similar for checks. With the snap-shot technology, a photo is taken of the check as it’s deposited, which allows the total to be instantly processed.
The deposits also are instantly processed onto the printed receipts. Everything else with the ATMs is similar so the system should remain user-friendly, Wilder said.
The snap-shot technology is currently used at the BECU’s Silverdale Safeway location, as well as at the credit union’s 40 other ATMs across the state. The Safeway location is the only BECU ATM in Kitsap County.
