Navy investigating submariners suicide
Jan 18 2005
An investigation by the Navy continues into the suicide of a sailor that occurred on Jan. 6 aboard the USS Nebraska, a Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor- based Trident submarine, while it was deployed.
Aaron Scrimiger, a 25-year-old sailor from Martinez, Calif., apparently committed suicide by hanging himself at his duty station.
We express our condolences to the sailors family and friends, said Lt. Herlinda Rojas, public affairs officer for Submarine Group 9.
He was one of 13 sailors assigned to the engineering spaces aboard the Nebraska. Scrimiger, a machinist mate third class, was standing watch and was monitoring the operation of steam plant machinery when he apparently committed suicide.
