Pat Bachman of Seabeck will be stepping out of his comfort zone at the end of the month. Bachman, a retired manufacturing executive and an advocate for the homeless, is heading up the Central Kitsap effort in the upcoming homeless persons count on Jan. 27 and 28. The count is being coordinated by the Bremerton-based Catholic Community Services, the organization behind Benedict House. Benedict House is a homeless shelter for men that was slated to be finished and ready to use by this month. Ground-breaking in Bremerton’s Charleston area is set for February.

Bachman said the plans for Benedict House were a direct result of the last homeless count in 2001. The count found 235 homeless men in Kitsap County, of which 146 were from the Bremerton area.

Bachman is on Benedict House’s advisory board and has been working with homeless men in Kitsap County for the last two years. His main involvement is through the Homeless Outreach Shelter Team (HOST), a collaboration of churches that cares for homeless
