In this class, math is an art form
Nov 17 2004
Leslie Quick isnt an artist, shes a math teacher. But to see the walls of classroom No. 4 at Central Kitsap Junior High School, it would be difficult to see the difference. Sketches of SpongeBob Squarepants and intricate, colorful designs created by her students decorate the walls of her classroom and while the untrained eye would easily mistake it for an art class, she is quick to insist it is all mathematics.
Quicks unique style of teaching math relating equations to art recently earned her a a 2004 Golden Apple Award. The Golden Apple Awards are statewide and are sponsored by PEMCO Insurance and KCTS.
