Group wants to improve Old Towns image

Can a little excitement and fun be injected into Old Town Silverdale?
Thats what a group of business and property owners in the area are hoping for since recently reorganizing the Old Town Silverdale Association by adopting by-laws, electing board members and selecting committee members as part of a revitalization plan.
The organization has discussed the possibility of holding several events in the future which included a family picnic at Silverdale Waterfront Park, a car show and a parade during the Christmas season.
We want to generate an overall vision for Old Town and develop guidelines and milestones. We are trying to get plugged into everything that happens in Old Town and hope we will be included in Old Towns business and property owners planning, said chairman Paul Taylor, co-owner of Jeanettes Old Town Flowers.
The organization also hopes to make Old Town a little safer. Some of the concerns of the association include security, lighting and crosswalks.
The main goals of this organization are to improve Old Town Silverdale and promote the welfare of the community, said Renitta Fredrickson, secretary and communications chair.
To address those concerns, the group formed a number of committees, including communications, community development, economic development, events, financial and membership. The group also created its own Web site, www.oldtownsilverdale.com.
The current annual rate for regular membership is $50 for those who have a business, own property or reside in Old Town. An annual membership of $25 is charged for an associate membership for those outside of the Old Town boundaries. Monthly general membership meetings are planned for the second Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in the Cove Room on the third floor of the Red Lion Hotel Silverdale. The next meeting is on June 8.
