Sears in Silverdale celebrates grand re-opening

Nov 06 2002

If you’re a regular at the Kitsap Mall, you’ve probably noticed the face lift to Sears inside-mall entrance.

Over the past month or so, workers on scaffolds were busily crafting a whole new look, said Sears officials. But the newness didn’t stop at the door.

Sears in Silverdale, Everett and Union Gap are planning grand re-openings Saturday, Nov. 9, after extensive remodeling — inside and out.

“It’s really opened up the space inside,” commented local manager Rick Corrigan. “It makes it much simpler for customers to find their way around.”

Check-out islands are more clearly marked, he said, and the store is even redesigning its shopping carts.

Sears at the Kitsap Mall, 10315 Silverdale Way N.W., will have a ribbon cutting at 9:45 a.m. Saturday. From noon to 2 p.m., Brian Dattilo, who plays Lucus Roberts on the “Days of Our Lives” day-time serial, will sign autographs. Sales clerks and Sears brass will be on hand to show what’s new.

There will be free $10 gift certificates to the first 250 customers that day; free candy, and register-to-win shopping sprees. From 1-4 p,.m., the store will host KidCare photo-IDs. There will also be free coffee samplings, product demos, and clowns for the kids.

The Silverdale Sears has 73,000 square feet and 190 employees. The venerable nationwide chain is remodeling about 50 stores this year and opening 15 new ones, said officials from Sears headquarters in Park Ridge, Ill.

New features at the store include Sears’ new line of Covington clothing for all ages; a “Big and Tall” shop for men; a large assortment of shoes in self-serve sections; a new “Cookware Home Accents” shop; new closet shop, coordinated bed and bath furnishings; Tool Territory with Craftsman and 74 other brands — a total of 18,000 tools; appliances such as Kenmore and other leading brands; electronics featuring plasma TVs, stereos, camcorders and digital cameras; a Portrait Studio and Optical Shop, Miracle Ear, and, in Silverdale and Everett, an H&R Block office. There’s also Sears Auto Center with its Diehard Battery line.

Sears, Roebuck and Co.’s annual revenue was more than $41 billion in 2001. It has 870 stores and sells on the Web at www.sears.com. In June of 2002, Sears acquired Lands’ End, a catalog store selling on the Web at www.landsend.com.
