"Brodie Walradt’s life has been intimately involved with the criminal justice system.So the convicted child molester didn’t offer any resistance when Eureka, Calif., police arrested him in a motel parking lot Saturday night. Walradt was sleeping in his car when arrested.Walradt, 28, is charged with first degree murder in the beating death of his former girlfriend Beth Kennard, 22. Kennard’s body was discovered at her parents’ East Bremerton home where she was living Friday.The woman was pregnant at the time of her death. She recently had sought a restraining order against Walradt.Walradt remains in custody in Eureka in lieu of a $1 million bond.“If he waives extradition we’ll go get him today (Monday),” county Prosecutor Russ Hauge said. If Walradt doesn’t waive extradition it could take weeks to return the convicted felon to Kitsap County.Hauge said Walradt was convicted of child molestation in 1994. The case involved a 12-year-old female. Hauge said Walradt was released from prison in 1998.“He was in the Department of Corrections Community Placement system. There was a warrant out for his arrest because he hadn’t reported (to his probation officer),” Hauge said.Hauge said reports in another newspaper that Walradt would be charged with another count of first-degree murder in the death of the fetus Kennard was carrying “isn’t something that’s coming from this office. We don’t know if we can make that case.”Kitsap County Sheriff Department Lt. Jim Harris said detectives had been in touch with Eureka police before the arrest.“That (spotting the car) was good police work on their part. We had the license plate (of Walradt’s car) on the computer. We’ve worked with them (Eureka police) before,” Harris said.Harris added that Eureka detectives had been questioning Walradt but that he hadn’t admitted his guilt in the murder of his pregnant ex-girlfriend. Harris said Walradt forced his way into the house by breaking a window and then “beat her to death.”Walradt had previous convictions for non-violent crimes prior to the child molestation that sent him to the penitentiary for four years."
