ON BAINBRIDGE

“Horizons” at Bainbridge Arts and Crafts, 151 Winslow Way.

“It’s all about your point of view,” the press release for this show begins.

The horizon line is one of the first decisions an artist makes when crafting a portrait of a landscape. It’s a key element in landscape paintings from the masters, like Pompeii and Monet.

It’s also enigmatic. The horizon represents a point of finiteness, but is also infinitely capable of being altered by the changing point-of-view of the viewer.

This month the BAC features the various points-of-view of nine different landscape-seasoned artists, photographers to painters, in its main showroom.

And in the back room, an exhibit titled “The Unexpected Table.” (BAM)

IN BREMERTON

“Parallels/Parallax” at Collective Visions, 331 Pacific Ave.

OK, I’m not going to lie — “Parallax,” I had to look that one up.

It’s a noun, meaning “the apparent displacement of an object caused by a change in the position from which it is viewed.” Sounds familiar.

The term could also hold major overtones with regard to the 2008 presidential election.

But since I am writing this four days prior and you might be looking for something to take your mind off of the election, we’ll leave it at that.

Collective Visions’ artists Susan Sweetwater and Deanna Pindell combine in “parallel visions” for this evocative art show of unique, visceral and sculptural installations matched with traditional paintings and sculpture.

Viewers will be invited to interact with the art and the ideas behind it, through each artists’ installation and the work lining the gallery’s walls.

And speaking of interacting with art, this month marks the 14th anniversary of the CVG co-op.
