IN BREMERTON

NEW WORKS ON PACIFIC AVE. at The Amy Burnett Gallery on the corner of 4th and Pacific and Collective Visions Gallery, 331 Pacific Ave.

There will be an abundance of new works unveiled on Pacific Avenue in downtown Bremerton this First Friday.

At the Amy Burnett Gallery, Burnett will be debuting a collection of new works connected through the hue of yellow on the main floor this month, following up on her last year’s “Blue Series.”

Downstairs — in the checker-floored studio of Mary Doyle — uber-urban, mini-sized “Bits of Bremerton” works (or Bobs for short) will be stacking up alongside some vivid mannequins and Doyle’s newest oil-and-acrylic, multi-media abstractions, which employ everything from plexi-glass to roofing material to cocktail umbrellas — all in wicked color.

Across the street, Collective Visions Gallery will be unleashing the work of four new artists in its upstairs showroom, while Barbara J. Mills and Janthina DuSavage present their “Inner Thoughts” in the basement boardroom gallery.

For the past six years, printmakers have gotten their props from the Roby King.

The gallery’s annual Printmakers’ Invitational — which enters its seventh year in 2008 — began as a way to give recognition to the fine art side of the painstakingly technical genre by bringing together a diverse group of local, regional and a few national artists in one room.

The work varies from traditional woodblock and linoleum cuts to the ever-increasingly popular monotype prints.

With such a wide-ranging collection year after year, the Roby King has hit on a theme that offers eye candy aplenty with a bit of fine art education lurking in subtlety.
