What’s Up for First Friday

Jul 30 2008

ON BAINBRIDGE

• CLAY AND KITES at Bainbridge Arts and Crafts, 151 Winlsow Way on Bainbridge.

The 60-year-old Bainbridge Arts and Crafts Gallery gets to be a kid again this month, featuring kite-maker Gregory Kono and five artists who play with clay.

Well they don’t actually “play” with clay, but you get the idea.

BAC is leaving behind the well-dressed kid with his hair combed and getting at the roots of adolescent joy with this show through the end of the month.

Info: www.bacart.org or call The Gallery at (206) 842-3132.

• SUSAN LeVAN at Roby King Galleries, 176 Winslow Way on Bainbridge.

This solo exhibition combines anthropology and art degrees, a mixed media artist and the chair of the illustration department at the Art Institute of Boston, all in the work of one person — Susan LeVan.

Info: www.robykinggalleries.com or call (206) 842-2063.

ALSO CHECK OUT: The Best of Gallery Fraga throughout August at 167 Winslow Way E.; The Island Gallery, 100 Madison Ave.; A is for Artists Gallery, 123 Bjune St. and other downtown businesses.

IN BREMERTON

• Powers of the Port Orchard 10 and more at the Amy Burnett Gallery, 296 4th St. in Bremerton.

There’s always something new at the Amy Burnett Gallery, gallery owner Amy Burnett says.

With North Kitsap’s renown neon artists Laurie Lewis and Joan Peter recently renting out window space as evidence along with the 10 artists from Port Orchard’s Manchester Gallery who’ll be setting up residence in Amy’s basement from August through October, I’d say she’s pretty right on.

ALSO CHECK OUT: Anna Hoey’s 2D matched with Wanda Garrity’s 3D at Collective Visions, 331 Pacific Ave.; Ploy Studios at 609 Fourth St.; Artists for Freedom and Unity at 318 Callow; and other businesses in the downtown, Charleston and Manette districts.
