Got sports? Tell this guy
Aug 13 2005
Editors note: The Review has a new sports writer. His names John Becerra, Jr., and you can send sports items to him at jbecerra@bainbridgereview.com. This is what he has to say for himself:
So this is my first actual job at a newspaper, but this isnt the first time Ive gotten involved with Sound Publishing.
Way back in eighth grade, we were involved in a shadow day where we could follow someone in a profession we were interested in.
Naturally, being the shy wallflower I was at the time, I chose to hang out with the sports editor, Terry Wexler, from the Central Kitsap Reporter (when it was called Community Style, and their office was located over at the Sheridan Mall in Bremerton).
Apparently, Terry liked what she saw in me at the time because she let me hang out at their office for the summer.
I got to see what it was like to write for a newspaper and I even got to write a few articles.
Fifteen years later, Im back at it again. This time, I dont have to shadow anyone.
Im excited about being here at the Review. It was nice to freelance for a while, but to get the reins of the whole sports section is a great honor, and I thank Editor Doug Crist for that.
So now that Im here, Id like to hear what you want.
Have some news of an islander or islanders who are doing well in an athletic competition?
Let me know, and Ill make sure they get some pub.
And if you have some ideas for stories, complaints, concerns, questions or praise, do let me know via the email address or phone number at the top of this page.
Because its just as much your sports section as it is mine.
