Randy Witt, the Director of Public Works at the city of Bainbridge Island has resigned from his post.

Witt will be leaving the city to take a position with King County Metro Transit as the design and construction manager. He will lead a $385 million design and construction program at the transit authority.

The resignation was confirmed by City Administrator Mark Dombroski on Tuesday, who also stated that City Engineer Bob Earl and the Deputy Director for Operations and Maintenance, Lance Newkirk, will jointly manage the public works department while the city searches for a new public works director.

“The city has already begun its search for a well qualified director,” Dombroski said in a statement.

Witt has been the Public Works Director for 8 years and has been involved in some of the city's largest projects including the multi-million dollar waste water treatment plant upgrade.

In a press release supplied by the city, Witt lauded his fellow employees and the chance he had to work on Bainbridge.

“This is an exciting opportunity that will allow me to return to the activity that drew me to engineering – designing and constructing improvements that serve communities,” Witt said. “I want to recognize and thank the Public Works staff, the city’s management team, the City Administrator and the Mayor. I am thankful for the opportunities that I have had to serve this community and its citizens.”
