It’s ‘Twilight’

at midnight

Teens – and in a demographically fascinating twist, moms – are in a tizzy about “Twilight.” The forthcoming film, based on the insanely popular Stephenie Meyer book series, opens during waking hours on Friday. Die-hard fans, however, can get an early start with a midnight benefit showing on Nov. 20 at Bainbridge Cinemas at the Pavilion.

Doors open at 11 p.m. Thursday; proceeds from the $25 tickets go to the Kitsap Regional Library Foundation. If you’re inclined to wait, advance tickets for regular “Twilight” showings are available now, and the theater reports that sales are “brisk.” See www.krl.org or www.bainbridgepavilion.com.

Get your ‘Zoo Shoes’ on

Saturday morning is storytime, with Bainbridge author Lynn Brunelle.

With interactive titles like “Pop Bottle Science” and “Camp Out,” Brunelle has perfected the art of making science and nature fun for kids.

Now, she tackles a skill that in the Velcro age could be a dying art, the tying of shoes.

She’ll present a program based on her new book, “Zoo Shoes: Learn to Tie Your Shoelaces!” at 11 a.m. Nov. 22 at Eagle Harbor Book Co. The program, suitable for ages 3 and up, will be followed by refreshments and a book signing. See www.eagleharborbooks.com.

Uncle Bonsai stopping in

The popular, sardonic, deadpan Seattle folk-pop trio Uncle Bonsai hits Island Center Hall on Saturday night.

The band, on-again, off-again since the 1980s, does but a few shows a year and for the last four has made Bainbridge an annual stop. The island’s own Cat Loves Crow will open the show. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $17 advance, at Vern’s Winslow Drug or www.unclebonsai.com, and $20 at the door.

Incredible day for creativity

Area artist Michele Soderstrom has an artistic passion for horses; her equine watercolors have won numerous regional awards. It’s fitting that one who depicts such calm, graceful creatures should want to create a calm space for creativity.

She devised an “Incredible Art Day” for kids ages 7 and older, to be held from 1-4 p.m. Nov. 23 at the Winslow Arms Apartments community hall.

The event isn’t so much a class as it is monitored art time during which Soderstrom will provide materials and offer her guidance and assistance to youngsters craving the space and sunlight to create to their hearts’ content.

The cost is $15/hour, and parents can drop kids off or stick around to watch the magic. Make reservations no later than Nov. 21 by calling Soderstrom at (206) 940-3248.
