Hear the Lindsay Family at Pegasus

From the Southeast to the Northwest, a talented Navy family has of late begun to make its musical mark on Kitsap.

The Lindsay Family kids, hailing from Virginia Beach, Va., formed a jazz trio that’s a far cry from your ordinary kids’ band. With young Ryan on electric bass, Christina on drums, and Tyler on trumpet and keyboard, the Lindsays – who range in age from 8 to 13 – have built a smooth, stage-ready performance that’s put them on the radar of various symphony orchestras as well as into an HBO special.

Last chance for Women’s Schola

Well, not your very last chance. But at 5:30 p.m. May 18, the Bainbridge Island Women’s Schola, under the direction of Kathleen Bullivant, will hold its last service until September at St. Cecilia Catholic Church.

If you crave contemplation and haven’t heard a service performed by the Schola, consider the wisdom of the women themselves, who note, “Unaccompanied women’s voices provide pleasure for the ears, food for the mind, and rest for the spirit, all in one half hour.” Email kathbull@yahoo.com for information.

Godspell with girl; Hobbit with heart

Two student performances full of spirit and soul will be staged this weekend.

Bethany Lutheran Church will presents the musical “Godspell, Jr.” at 7 p.m. May 17 and 3 p.m. May 18. The production features community youth in this presentation of Jesus’ life as told in the Book of Matthew. And in the true spirit of the groovy, exuberant original production, which opened off Broadway in 1971, Jesus will be played by a girl.

Meanwhile, Madrona School’s eighth grade will present two public performances of J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic “The Hobbit” at 7 p.m. May 16 and 17 at Eagle Harbor Church. A student bake sale will follow, with funds benefiting the eighth grade class. Call 855-8041 for information.
