Islanders urged to buy locally

Bainbridge Island Downtown Association will launch a “Think Bainbridge/Buy Local” campaign during the week of July 1-7. The campaign is aimed to inform Bainbridge residents of the importance of local businesses and will augment the Chamber of Commerce’s efforts in the area during the past year.

During “Celebrate Independents Week,” as the downtown group is calling it, an information booth will be set up during the July 3 Street Dance. Winslow business owners will wear “Buy Local” T-shirts and distribute information.

The campaign is intended to inform consumers on the value of independent businesses, said a BIDA release, and also emphasize a connection between the community and those businesses. It also strives to provide a way for community members to show support for local businesses.

Chamber needs 4th volunteers

Feeling patriotic? The Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce is still in need of volunteers to help stage this year’s Grand Old Fourth of July.

Volunteers are needed for street fair vendor support and script/ticket/game management for inflatable games at Waterfront Park.

Also needed to ensure that the day’s activities go smoothly are assistance with traffic control for street closures; the Chamber of Commerce information booth; water boys and/or girls for parade participants; and Teen Takeover supervisors.

Along volunteer lines, the Bainbridge High School Earth Service Corps is looking for recycling assistance at this year’s festivities, both the July 3 street parade and the Grand Old Fourth.
