Eastside Swing Cats to offer dance lessons, dining at July 13 fund-raiser

The Eastside Swing Cats will hold a special fund-raising event from 4-10 p.m. Sunday, July 13 at the North Bellevue Community Center, 4063 148th Ave. N.E.
The three-part event features dance workshops, a dinner and a preview performance of “Swingin’ Thru Time,” the show that the local dance troupe will perform at Disneyland on Aug. 10. The public may attend one or all portions of the event.
The Eastside Swing Cats include adults and teens from Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Woodinville, Carnation, North Bend and Renton.
The group was invited to dance at Disneyland after auditioning via DVD. It is the second year that they have been invited.
Their 2007 performance at the famous California theme park was “the trip of a lifetime for us,” said Alison Evan. “We grew as dancers. It is a very professional opportunity.”
However, they won’t be paid for their Disneyland appearance, so they’re hoping to raise around $5,000 to offset their travel expenses.
Workshops at the July 13 fund-raiser will include lindy hop and beginning aerials at 4 p.m. and Balboa and “fun moves” (such as freezes and shines) at 5 p.m. Partners are required for the aerials and Balboa workshops.
The “Swingin’ Thru Time” dinner show will follow at 6 p.m., with the Eastside Swing Cats dancing to such classics as “Shout and Feel It,” “Hep and Happy,” “Blue Moon” and “Bill’s Bounce.”
A free swing dance lesson will be offered at 7 p.m., followed by dancing to a DJ from 7:30-10 p.m.
Tickets are $10 for one workshop or $18 for two. The dinner show is $25 and includes admission to the dance. A special $35 ticket includes two workshops and the dinner show.
