Hawks battle Ravens in Twin Falls football game

The Chief Kanim Middle School varsity football team traveled to Twin Falls on Thursday, Sept. 25 to play the Ravens at their new field, surrounded by mountains.

After shutting down the Ravens on offense, the Hawks drove down the field, mixing up their plays with precision. Connor Klupar dragged several tacklers in the end zone for the first score. Cameron VanWinkle booted the extra point, and the Hawks led, 8-0.

Similar action followed in the first half, as shifty tailback Austin Hall got in the end zone two times with great blocking from his line. VanWinkle came through with three more extra points and the Ravens were shocked, being down 24-0. VanWinkle kicked a 27-yard field goal the last play of the half, and Chief Kanim had a 27-0 lead.

In the second half, the Ravens got fired up and were moving the ball. They scored on the Hawks defense and were on the board, though the Chief Kanim defense stopped the extra point.

In the fourth quarter, Hall got a pitch and headed around the right end. He tip-toed down the sideline for the Hawks’ final score, ending it 33-6.

Austin Hall had 73 yards on 13 carries. Erik Stai had an excellent game throwing and leading the team. Blake Gillespie had some great blocks at receiver that got Hall into the end zone.

The Hawks play Snoqualmie Middle School on Thursday, Oct. 2, at Chief Kanim.
