Time for an international school
Nov 12 2008
We’ve seen three tries at passing a bond to build another standard high school, and the last time I checked, three strikes and you’re out! Perhaps that contributed to the announcements affecting the makeup of our school board. Being discussed this time is modular classrooms relocatable (not sure where, if anywhere, they could be added at Mount Si High School) due to land being unavailable.
Why not address the issue of college prep? Running Start is popular in the Valley. Graduates of MSHS do go on to college to a large degree, as economic changes within the Valley itself have closed other opportunities. High tech, gaming (ever noticed just how big Nintendo is in the Valley and greater King County?), engineering, aerospace, and other well-paying jobs are still readily available within Western Washington, even closer to us as industry has shifted east from Seattle.
Other school districts around our area have sought and found approval for funds to accomplish this. The International School concept can be implemented within existing buildings as a separate facility, specific to this is being built on smaller land space, more readily available. It’s time to embrace change and step into a new way of thinking.
