Woman dies in fire

Jul 11 2002

NORTH BEND - A 45-year-old North Bend woman died last week in a fire in her trailer home located near Southeast North Bend Way.

Emergency crews from Eastside Fire and Rescue responded to the home of Maureen Krueger at the Mount Si Mobile Home Park on Monday, July 1, at 6:13 p.m. after neighbors reported seeing smoke coming from her windows.

The cause of the fire has not yet been identified by the King County Fire Marshal's Office, which is investigating the incident.

When emergency crews arrived after at the home, they knocked down the front door and found Krueger dead inside.

The King County Medical Examiner's Office said she died from smoke inhalation.

King County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Greg Dymerski said deputies previously went to Krueger's home at about 3:51 p.m. that same day after receiving a call that Krueger was threatening to kill herself. The deputies made sure she was all right, then left.

Neighbor and friend Debbie Peterson said Krueger moved to the mobile home park about three years ago from Texas. Peterson said Krueger helped her out at her cleaning business before she got a job at an insurance company in Bellevue, where she was training to become an underwriter.

Krueger loved the outdoors and often went on bike rides up to Snoqualmie Pass, Peterson said.

Upon hearing about Krueger's death, Peterson said her neighbors were devastated.

"We're just shocked," Peterson said. "But she's in a better place now."
