Celebrate Snoqualmie Valley birds with Eastside Audubon walk

Sep 08 2009

Eastside Audubon is joining the King County Farm Tour and offering childrens’ activities at the Dougherty Farmstead and two family bird walks on the nearby Carnation-Duvall Trail on Saturday, Sept. 26.

The family bird walks will be led by experienced bird trip leaders. They will begin at Depot Park in Duvall and follow the Carnation-Duvall Trail. The walks begin at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. and will last about an hour.

Children’s activities will be held from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Dougherty Farmstead.

“Kids really love to make one of the pine cone bird feeders, said Mary Britton-Simmons, Eastside Audubon’s education chairwoman. “It’s easy to do and it will attract chickadees, nuthatches and other birds.”

Eastside Audubon is participating for the first time in the Harvest Celebration Farm Tour in King County as part of their outreach efforts to introduce the organization to residents of its expanded service area. Eastside Audubon serves the area eastward from Lake Washington to the Cascade ridge and from the Snohomish County line southward to a bit south of I-90.

The Audubon Society strives to conserve and restore the natural ecosystem focusing on birds, other wildlife and their habitat for the benefit of humanity and earth’s biological diversity. The chapter is also planning future activities in other eastern King County towns.
