Business offers help for new-found friends

Members of a Valley business recently gave their time and energy to help others in a faraway country.

Glen and Becky Gordon, owners of Gordon Construction in Fall City, traveled with several employees to Dario, Nicaragua, to perform the first phase of construction for a new high school.

Gordon Construction was there to help Dario Christian Academy, which has students from preschool through 11th grade. The Gordons arranged the trip to pour and finish a 4,000-plus-square foot slab for the building. The project was sponsored by Compassion in Action, a non-profit organization based in Kent.

With help from Compassion in Action, the school provides food, education and other assistance through sponsorships for approximately 270 elementary students. Compassion in Action also sponsors Managua Christian Academy and Comedor Infantil Center, a child feeding center. All together, the organization feeds over 600 poor children every day.

The crew put together by Gordon Construction worked closely with students, their families and about 15 local workers, bringing back stories of their new-found friendships. Several local companies provided funding to help purchase materials. Chinook Lumber of North Bend and Integrity Finishing of Bellevue both donated to the effort, as did Tad Peterson of Duvall.
