Grizzlies win back-to-back league titles

If there was any doubt about who deserves the Sea-Tac 2B Most Valuable Player Award, Bear Creek junior guard Jamie Meyer may have just settled the discussion once and for all.
The shooting phenom poured in 28 points during the Grizzlies’ 55-43 win in the league championship game over Tacoma Baptist at Chief Leschi school in Puyallup Monday night. It was the Grizzlies’ second straight Sea-Tac 2B title.
Meyer also grabbed 16 rebounds to go along with his huge scoring performance.
“Jamie hit big shot after big shot, using our transition game with our fast break,” said Bear Creek coach Scott Moe of his star shooting guard. “It was fun to get him running and scoring in transition.”
Meyer also hit 9 of 11 free throws in the game.
“We played smart, played well, and hit our free throws down the stretch,” Moe said.
After opening the game ice-cold and staring at an 8-1 deficit in the first quarter, the Grizzlies broke the game open with a 21-point second quarter, taking an eight point lead at the half, and never looked back.
Sophomore Lucas Peterson added 11 for the Grizzlies, and freshman Aaron DiGenova came up big off the bench with eight points.
Up next for the Grizzlies (20-1) is a rematch against Quilcene — the only team to beat Bear Creek — in the opening round of the Tri-District tournament. The game was held on Thursday night at Bear Creek after the Reporter’s deadline.
