Prep Report - Martin leads Stangs past Rebels

Dec 04 2008

Powered by an offensive outburst, the Redmond High girls basketball team blasted the Juanita Rebels, 79-54, in its nonleague season opener on Tuesday.

Redmond, playing on the road, led 22-12 after the first quarter, but the Rebels narrowed the gap to 34-27 at the half before the Mustangs broke away in the third and fourth quarters, outscoring the Rebels, 45-27.

Led by first-team all-Kingco selection Courtney Martin’s 23 points, Redmond had four players in double-digits. Marissa Pratt, a 6-foot-4 post, scored 14, followed by team captain Alicia Valentine with 12 and Chandler Jones with 10.

Mustang boys run over Rebels

Playing at home, the Redmond boys team spread the ball around the floor with success in its 67-38 season-opening victory over the Rebels on Tuesday.

The Mustangs, who limited the Rebels to less than 10 points in the second, third and fourth quarters, had all 11 players on its varsity roster score in the game, led by Philip Leland, who finished with 14.

Due to Issaquah’s involvement in the Class 4A state football game against Skyline, the Redmond boys’ game against the Eagles has been rescheduled.

Originally slated for Tuesday, Dec. 9, the game will now be played at Issaquah High School on Monday, Dec. 22 at 7:30 p.m.

Overlake boys, girls both lose

The Overlake girls also lost on Wednesday at home to Darrington, 52-26.

Alex Mackenzie led the Owls with 10 points.
