I-1033 must be opposed

Nov 02 2009

Michael Kress's letter to the editor in the Oct. 30 edition in favor of Initiative 1033 was marked by unbridled xenophobia.

The logic of his position, surely, is that it is time for all those in this country, post Christopher Columbus, to please go home. Mr. Kress does us a favor, however, in that he unintentionally reminds us that the unelectable Mr. Tim Eyman's initiatives have one thing in common: they appeal to our base instincts.

These crude mechanisms to place our local government in a straitjacket must be opposed.

David C. Sheehy, Redmond
