Doreen Marchione to run for Kirkland City Council

Kirkland resident and former Redmond Mayor, Doreen Marchione, has filed to run for Kirkland City Council position No. 7, currently held by incumbent Tom Hodgson.
"I wanted to chose a position that I had a good chance of winning," said Marchione. "I have been dismayed by some of his decisions."
The 70-year-old Marchione is a board member of the Kirkland Performance Center and was mayor of Redmond from 1984-1991. Marchione was mayor when Microsoft moved to Redmond.
"I won't have a steep learning curve," said Marchione. "Redmond and Kirkland deal with different issues. But my experience helping Microsoft come to Redmond and my background in economic development will be a benefit for drawing businesses to Kirkland and I have followed the council for a long time."
Doreen's son John Marchione is currently the Mayor of Redmond.
The former Redmond Mayor moved to Kirkland 17 years ago.
"I saw this condo and I knew I always wanted to live in Kirkland," said Marchione.
She was also the president and CEO of Hopelink from 1992-2006.
"They had budget defects and we got them turned around," said Marchione, adding that Kirkland has economic development challenges that need to be solved.
