Woman arrested for assaulting a police officer

Redmond Police arrested a woman with a history of violence early Monday morning for allegedly assaulting a police officer.

She is in King County Jail facing third-degree assault charges and a $30,000 bail, according to court documents. Leslie Nelson, 38, is “a risk to commit a violent offense,” according to King County Prosecutor court documents, which listed seven different assault convictions as part of Nelson’s criminal history.

Nelson allegedly arrived at a neighbor’s dinner party in the 6000 block of 140th Avenue Northeast uninvited around 11:45 p.m. last Sunday. She harassed and assaulted the guests, according to witness reports in the court documents. The neighbor called police and when the first officer arrived, the woman “immediately began getting into a fighting stance,” according to Redmond Police Department spokesperson Jim Bove.

Bove said Redmond Police have had other encounters with Nelson.

“This is not unusual behavior for this suspect,” Bove said.

The woman hit the officer “several times in the face with a closed fist,” according to court documents. As the officer tried to use his taser, Nelson tried to grab it or block it, Bove said. Nelson continued to resist arrest but was eventually controlled and arrested, Bove said.
