Agency adds new board members

Friends of Youth, a Redmond-based, non-profit agency that provides services for youth and their families in King and Snohomish counties, has appointed Rick Antezana and Jeffrey Barager as its board of directors.

Antezana is currently a vice president of Dynamic Language Center, a Seattle-based language service provider that has been in business since 1985. Antezana has more than 16 years of experience in the translation and localization industry and has expertise in communication, strategic planning, human resources management, and IT process architecture. In 1995, he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Washington.

Since 2001, Barager has served as senior manager for Point B, a consulting firm based in multiple locations, including Seattle, Phoenix, Chicago, and Los Angeles. He has handled diverse projects in financial services, insurance and non-profit industries.

Prior to this position, Barager worked for Accenture, formerly known as Andersen Consulting, for 11 years.

Barager earned a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Washington and has attended professional courses in systems development and leadership throughout his career.

New guidelines for students

PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, and Cadbury Schweppes have agreed to new national guidelines for products offered to students. While the Lake Washington School District’s nutrition policy already has limited what drinks can be offered in vending machines in district schools, the adoption of ABA guidelines by beverage distributors will result in further restrictions.

Highlights include removal of sports drinks from junior high vending machines. Junior highs were previously allowed to sell carbonated drinks (pop) after school; now they will not be available at all in junior highs. Changes at the high school level include offering only diet versions of carbonated drinks and tea drinks. Juice and sports drinks will be limited in the sizes available.

Coincidentally, the district’s beverage vending services contract was up for bid this summer. The bid was awarded to Coca-Cola, so students and staff will see a change from Pepsi to Coke products when they return to school.

Meeting cancelled

The City of Redmond’s Parks and Trails Commission has cancelled their Sept. 4 meeting. They will reconvene at their regularly scheduled meeting on Oct. 2 in the City Hall Council Conference Room, 15670 NE 85th Street at 7pm.

Garlic Jim’s to offer gluten-free pizza

Garlic Jim’s Famous Gourmet Pizza will no offer new gluten-free pizzas in the Redmond Garlic Jim’s store.

“I’m glad we can offer this new and exciting addition to our menu,” said Redmond store owner Bruce Bogle. “I encourage all gluten intolerant folks in the area to come by and try the best gourmet gluten-free pizza available.”

Garlic Jim’s first introduced gluten-free pizza to the Portland, Ore., Vancouver, Wash area at the end of May and has received rave reviews from its customers.
