Top Food to open at former Larry's Market site in Redmond

Dec 16 2008

The grocery store at Redmond Town Center, 7320 170th Ave. NE, has gained significant improvements while being converted to a Top Food store, effective Wednesday, Dec. 17.

Formerly Larry’s Market, the Redmond TOP Food has been upgraded since it was acquired March 1 by a subsidiary of Haggen, Inc., the largest privately owned grocer based in Washington.

Lynda Tickner, store manager of the Redmond Top Food, is grateful for the understanding shown by customers during the multimillion-dollar renovation project.

“We are very proud of the store’s new look, which retains the best features of Larry’s Market while enhancing the choices and services we offer,” said Tickner.

Starting Dec. 17, the 50,000-square-foot store, opened in July 2000, will be open 24 hours a day, closing only on Christmas Day. It becomes the 18th Top Food store in Washington.

Top Food has six other stores in King County: Bellevue, Woodinville, Kent, Auburn, Federal Way and Shoreline.

Tickner said customers will notice differences as soon as they walk in the store.

“We changed the lighting to create a brighter, warmer atmosphere while also making it more energy efficient,” she said. “As people walk in the Redmond TOP Food, they’ll immediately see that we’ve redone the produce department and increased the size and selection of the bulk foods department.”

The deli and food court areas also received a great deal of attention, Tickner said. They now have a wider selection of quality cheese, a self-service Orient food bar, toasted sub sandwiches and TerraVida Coffee Express, a high-tech machine which quickly makes a variety of drinks for customers on the go. The cafe still offers a grill that provides made-to-order entrees for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The Top Food bakery will feature 20 varieties of BellaTerra breads — handcrafted artisan breads in the European style with no trans fat, preservatives and artificial colors or flavors.

The store retains popular features such as the wine store with a climate-contolled wine room and experienced wine specialist Ken Weiland available to assist customers. Also, the seafood department will continue to offer live crabs and lobsters.
