Reverse 911

Using “Reverse 911,” the city can now use our telephones to warn us of impending storms or crime scenes. That is good news! And one’s first reaction might be: thankfully, we live in the high-tech era. My first reaction: that is just like my childhood in Western Kansas in the late 1930s, when your party line telephone rang without pause (not the usual one long and two shorts), that meant a tornado had been sighted and you were to run for the nearest cellar (cellars were ubiquitous for storing food). So, decades later, my telephone again aids safety and survival.
