MIHS Information Evening

7 p.m., Jan. 6, in the Performing Arts Center (PAC). The purpose of this evening, for parents of eighth-grade students, is to provide general information about MIHS, its programs and services. Tours of the school will be led by student ambassadors. A Course Registration evening will be held on Feb. 2.

Cleaning up

Residents are asked to move cars off streets to facilitate the removal of any remaining snow and sand.

Allied Waste will return to its regular schedule for trash pick-up this week. There will be no charge for the accumulated garbage.

Council

The Mercer Island City Council will hold its first meeting of the year at 7 p.m., Monday, Jan. 5, in Council Chambers at City Hall. For more information, go to www.mercergov.org.

Tree chipping

The city of Mercer Island will be offering its annual holiday tree chipping service through Jan. 4.

Bring undecorated Christmas trees to the city’s maintenance shop behind City Hall at 9601 S.E. 36th St. Remove stands, ornaments and lights; No flocked or artificial trees are accepted; bring them during daylight hours only. Or call (206) 232-1264 for the Mercer Island Lacrosse Club to pick up and recycle your Christmas tree.

Shopper alert

The Mercer Island Thrift Shop’s annual year-end sale continues through Jan. 3, featuring 50 percent off on all clothing, linen and shoes marked with yellow tags. The final Bag Day for 2008 will be on Saturday, Jan. 3 when discounted items are for sale by the bag for $0.99 per pound. For details and hours, go to www.mercergov.org.
