Mercer Island Police Blotter | Nov. 26

Nov 26 2008

Arrests

Police arrested a 75-year-old Islander for harassing and threatening to kill a tow truck driver during an argument over the price that he was getting charged for towing his car to his house around 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 19 in the 5100 block of 90th Avenue S.E.

Auto accidents

A collision occurred when an 18-year-old Islander turned left onto Merrimount Drive from northbound Island Crest Way around 5 p.m. on Nov. 19. According to the accident report, a 37-year-old man from Everett driving a pickup truck did not see the oncoming teen as they were both turning left. The Everett man was cited for failing to yield. It was unclear if either driver was injured.

Theft

A box of mail-ordered cigars was stolen from the front porch of an Island home in the 9000 block of North Mercer Way between 6:45 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. on Nov. 11. According to the police report, the 55-year-old victim noticed an opened box in his front yard when he came home that afternoon. Originally thinking that it was just garbage, he soon realized it was the empty $25 box of cigars that he had ordered.

A 53-year-old Bothell woman is suspected of stealing a bundle of personal and business mail from her boss in retaliation for getting fired in late October. According to the police report, the victim notified police of the theft when specific checks and court documents were never received by the people who they were supposed to be delivered to. The suspect was to deliver the mail the day before she was fired from a business located in the Town Center.

Several tools and equipment, including $450 nail guns, were stolen from an unlocked backyard storage unit at an Island home in the 2400 block of 72nd Avenue S.E. during the night of Nov. 16.

An iPod was found in the 2900 block of 78th Avenue S.E. between 9 and 10 a.m. on Nov. 21. An Islander found it while out on a walk.

Cyclist accident

A 42-year-old Seattle cyclist injured his hip after turning around on some wet leaves and crashing on a steep private drive in the 4400 block of East Mercer Way around 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 19. According to the accident report, the rider was going southbound on East Mercer when he decided to turn around, slipping on the wet leaves. The injured hip may have been fractured. Fire personnel were on the scene when police arrived.

Skate damage

Skateboarders apparently caused $300 worth of damage to a concrete ledge in the parking structure of a Town Center business earlier this month. According to the police report, the business owner notified police of damage to an eight-foot section of concrete wall that had been freshly painted and topped with wax by the skaters. The owner also reported that it looked as if a skateboard had been dragged across the concrete.

Graffiti

Graffiti was spray-painted onto some pillars of West Mercer Elementary School during the night of Nov. 17, and the suspects were caught on a surveillance camera. The damage estimate is $100.
