Finders and seekers

Daniel Peyton, 9, holds his reward for finding a fellow Islander’s lost wedding band in Lake Washington and returning it to its owner, Bob Mathews, above right, earlier this month.
Peyton and his younger brother, Aidan (far right, holding the ring), met with Mathews and his wife, Colleen, pictured at left, at Kell’s Irish Pub — owned by the boys’ family — in Seattle for the exchange. Peyton had searched methodically for the lost ring in the water at Calkins Landing many times in August, but ended up finding it by chance more than a month later in September.
“Daniel is an extraordinary young man and very genuine,” Colleen Mathews said.
Island connections abound with the ring, she noted.
A friend, Kathleen Lopez of Cascade Frames, told her of the story, featured in the Nov. 12 issue of the Reporter. The ring was made on Mercer Island by jeweler Daniel Lewis 15 years ago, when the couple got engaged.
“It means so much to us to have it back,” she said.
