Inaugural AJC Distinguished Leadership Award goes to Rosen

Mercer Island resident, Deborah Rosen, has received the American Jewish Committee Seattle Chapter’s (AJC Seattle) Distinguished Leadership Award. The award recognizes Rosen for her work with the Seattle Jewish Film Festival, FilmTalks program, the Board and the Max Block Student Human Relations Awards. She plans to establish a $150,000 educational endowment fund through AJC Seattle, offering scholarships worth $2,500 to Block Award recipients.

Early in her career, which has centered around education and youth mentoring, Rosen founded Basic Education Tutors, Inc. She currently operates a professional consulting practice and participates on the Seattle Public Library Foundation Board, the University of Washington Medical School Board of Visitors and the Jewish Federation Foundation Board. She is also a United Way Ambassador, AJC National vice president and a member of the Seattle Chapter of Achievement Rewards for College Scientists; the Seattle Repertory Theatre, Bridges to Understanding and JCC Parenting Center boards; and the AJC National Board of Governors.

Rosen graduated from U.C.L.A. with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and Harvard University with a Master’s in Education.

A gala dinner will be held in Rosen’s honor on Dec. 3.
