Issaquah volleyball claims KingCo title

Nov 06 2009

The Issaquah volleyball team couldn't have picked a better time to catch fire.

The Eagles wrapped up the KingCo 4A tournament Thursday night with a three-game victory over Woodinville — 25-22, 25-22, 25-23.

Three Eagles were in double-figure kills, led by Rachel Roeder's 13. Alyssa Schultz and Stephanie Stoll had 10 apiece. Alexa Batquin had a team-high 25 kills and Riley Sorenson had 40 assists and 10 digs.

Issaquah improved to 12-5 overall with the victory and will enter the 4A state tournament next week as the No. 1 seed from District 2/4. IHS has won its last five matches and 11 of its last 12.

Woodinville, which was a perfect 11-0 during regular-season KingCo play, has to play the Greater St. Helens League No. 2 team, Heritage, in a loser-out, winner-to-state match on Saturday. Bothell is vying for the other playoff spot against the GSHL No. 1 team, Skyview, on Saturday.

The 4A state tournament runs Nov. 12-13 at the Toyota Center in Kennewick. Brackets will be determined after the weekend.

Skyline, Eastlake seasons come to an end

Skyline's run at the state tournament came to an end Thursday with a 25-18, 25-15, 28-16 loss to Bothell. The Spartans started the tournament Saturday with a loss to Newport, before battling back to beat Redmond on Tuesday. Skyline ended its season with an 8-9 record. Eastlake went two and out in the double-elimination tournament, falling to Bothell on Saturday and Ballard on Tuesday. The Wolves ended the year at 6-9 overall.
