Girls basketball | Issaquah earns redemption over Skyline

Five days after losing to Skyline, Issaquah earned redemption over the Spartans with a 60-43 victory in the first round of the KingCo 4A playoffs.

The Eagles, ranked No. 1, led from start to finish over eighth-ranked Skyline. Three players scored in double-figures for Issaquah, led by Maddey Pflaumer's 16 points. Erin Nicol had 12 and Brooke Miller added 10.

The Spartans were led by Lindsey Perry's game-high 20 points.

Issaquah advanced to a winner-to-state game against Inglemoor at 8:15 p.m., Saturday at Juanita High School. Skyline moved into the losers' bracket and will face Garfield at 4:45 p.m., Saturday at Juanita.

Eastlake wins double-OT thriller

For the third year in a row, the Eastlake girls advanced through the first round of the KingCo 4A tournament onto a winner-to-state game. They hope to make the third time a charm after falling short the previous two seasons.

The Wolves, ranked No. 3 in the tournament, beat sixth-ranked Newport in dramatic fashion Wednesday night, 55-52, in double overtime. Junior Alyssa Charlston and senior Ellie Martinez combined for 17 points apiece, helping the Wolves come back from a five-point deficit in the fourth quarter.

Eastlake moved to 15-6 overall, but more importantly into a winner-to-state district game at 6:30 p.m., Saturday against Roosevelt at Juanita High School. The winner of that game secures a playoff berth and faces the winner of Issaquah-Inglemoor at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 27 for the KingCo championship. The loser plays the winner of Skyline-Garfield at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday at Juanita.
