The Jaguars get their claws into art

The students of Endeavour Elementary School on the Issaquah-Fall City Road have proven in that past that they have a keen interest in the arts and in being creative.

But even they have outdone themselves for the Reflections Art Program this year.

"I think last year we had something like 160, or 170 entries, and that was fantastic," remembered Principal Kathy Connally. "But this year we had 216 entries. That is just amazing."

It is indeed a tremendous effort from the Jaguars. For most classes, having something ready for Reflections isn't compulsory, and students use their own time to complete art works, which can include a wide range of mediums - painting, music, literature, even dance.

Connally said that she was very proud that her students managed to submit entries in every discipline.

At the Reflections judging reception on Monday night, the music composed by several students will be broadcast over the school's PA.

The purpose of the program is to encourage students to create original works of art, whatever they might be.

All the works this year will be tied together by the theme "Beauty is...," encouraging the artists to explore where they believe beauty lies in our world and our society.

This year The Reporter will be visiting as many area schools as we can manage, to take photos of the Reflections entries and give much deserved exposure to the young artists in our community.
