IHS football will play at home in September

Officials on Wednesday announced a change of plans involving Issaquah High School athletics — at least through September.

Originally, the football team was slated to play its home games at Mount Si High School in Snoqualmie and the volleyball team was scheduled to play its games at the the Pacific Cascade Freshman campus.

Issaquah athletic director Michael Bailey announced Wednesday afternoon that both teams will get to play at their home locations through September.

"At this point in time we are only confirming home contests for the month of September — we will reevaluate the first part of September for our October contests," Bailey said, in a release.

The teams originally weren't going to be able to play at their normal home locations because of the ongoing construction at the IHS campus. The district released this statement in regards to allowing teams to compete through September.

"As work progresses through the many phases of the project, we will continue to evaluate the schedule of demolition and construction activities. Whenever we can maintain safe conditions, we will offer the school use of existing facilities or portions of completed new facilities. As noted by our Construction Coordinator for the project, portions of the existing school campus will remain available for school use following the start of school. Capital Projects will coordinate construction activities with IHS to provide as much advance notice as possible to allow orderly transitions in use and move-out."

Games that changed for the Issaquah football team include a Sept. 12 contest against Mount Si and the Sept. 26 Homecoming game against Garfield. Both games start at 7 p.m.

The volleyball team will play home games Sept. 11 vs. Liberty, Sept. 25 vs. Woodinville and Sept. 30 vs. Garfield. All matches start also start at 7 p.m.
