Skyline High School senior Jake Heaps added another honor to his growing list of football achievements, when on Friday afternoon he was officially selected to play in the 2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

The Sammamish quarterback leads one of the best high school football teams in the country, and was at the center of intense competition between some of the biggest colleges in America to secure his services for 2010 and beyond, before announcing that he would accept a scholarship with Brigham Young University earlier this year.

Heaps will play in the 10th Anniversary game on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

The annual classic East vs. West match-up will be televised live on NBC at 10 a.m. and will feature the nation’s top 90 high school football players.

The television production room at Skyline was transformed into a busy media center Friday as Army and High School sports officials presented Heaps with his U.S. Army All-American Bowl jersey and cap.

Skyline coach Mat Taylor was also invited to make the trip to Texas.

Staff and students at the school will no doubt be getting used to the media frenzy which has arisen around the talented Heaps, and his standout team.

But according to Heap's father Steve, young Jake is taking all the attention in his stride.

"He handles all this pretty well," Steve said.

Hours later, after the cameras and lights had been packed away, Heaps led the Spartans to a 42-7 victory over Redmond.
