City jams to blues band at Pine Lake Park

It’s another Thursday night concert, and it seems as if all of Sammamish has gathered to enjoy the jams in Pine Lake Park. Each week, as part of Sammamish’s summer concert series, a different band with a new sound plays in the park and offers up some sweet licks for residents and guests.

Last week on Aug. 7, Velvet Blues Revue, a four-member band with a bounty of talent, rocked the park by strumming the blues, performing classic rock covers and boasting huge vocal ranges.

Families gathered on the lawn and laid out their blankets, as children scuttled to the front to hop about and dance to artists such as Stevie Ray Vaughn. Food was provided at the rear of the lawn, offering a variety of snacks such as pizza, ice cream and popcorn. Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) had also set up a booth, providing information about its training program for neighborhood groups.

The concerts offer an amazing opportunity to bond with fellow Sammamish citizens, so families should consider arriving earlier than the recommended starting time of 6:30 p.m. The crowds have already accumulated by that time, and little room is left to spread out and claim space.

Kyle Johnson, first-time attendee, but a long time lover of blues and resident of Sammamish for 12 years said, “It is important for the people of the city to get involved with happenings such as these. It gives a sense of unity and really offers a fun time for every age group.”

Shelley and the Curves will play dance music from the 1960s to ‘80s from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 21 at Pine Lake Park. The city’s birthday celebration will be celebrated from 6 to 8 p.m. the following Thursday, Aug. 28.
