Bellevue skaters win gold medals
Jun 28 2008
Bellevue roller skating champion Katarina DeMello continued her winning ways by earning three gold medals at the Northwest Regional Championships in Portland, Ore.
Katarina, 12, won in singles, figures and loops. She is a Northwest champion for the fifth year in a row.
Katarina also was voted winner of the “Sportsmanship Award” of the year by the Northwest Roller Skating Association as the athlete who was the most friendly, nice and who had the best attitude.
Roller skating medals apparently run in the family. Katarina’s sister, Serena, 7, won a gold medal in Primary A Girls Figures, her first event to skate. She also got a gold skating Pairs with Tyas Hansen and a silver medal in the Singles event.
After a few days break, the skaters will head to the USA Nationals in Lincoln, Neb., on July 20-30.
