Bellevue schools: A better way to instruct kids
Sep 03 2008
I have a suggestion for the Bellevue school board in its current quest to ensure that teachers districtwide follow the same lesson plans for all their subjects.
Why stop with lesson plans if you have concerns about the teachers’ abilities?
Have some “master teacher” for each subject produce a DVD that can be played in all the classrooms. That way they can be absolutely certain that each student is exposed to the same instruction. Teachers could be used to keep attendance, maintain order in the classroom, and answer the few questions that students might have about such “brilliant” presentations.
I suspect that many of their best teachers would move to other districts where there abilities to teach the subject matter in a way that best meets their individual student requirements would be recognized. Since the Bellevue board probably regards them as “malcontents,” their departure would be no great loss.
