Hit and run in Bellevue leaves man in serious condition

A maintenance worker was the victim of a hit-and-run in Bellevue's Hidden Valley Park area on Wednesday afternoon.

The 47-year-old man was seriously injured after being struck by a car around 2:20 p.m., in the 1700 block of 112th Avenue Northeast.

The driver of the car sped off and is yet to be located. Police have a vague description of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run. They believe it to be a newer compact car that was light blue or gray.

Bellevue police said the victim, who's name has not been released, was blowing leaves when a car hit him and sent him flying roughly 25 feet. The man had parked a maintenance truck partially in the roadway as he worked, and was in the street when he was struck.

Bellevue Police spokeswoman Carla Iafrate said there was plastic debris from the driver's vehicle at the scene of the accident.

Police are asking witnesses of the crash to call 911 immediately. Iafrate said auto-body repair shops should also contact authorities if they see a vehicle matching the description of the car.

"There should be significant damage to the passenger-side front quarter panel and the passenger-side windshield," Iafrate said.

The man was rushed to Harborview Medical Center with injuries that police say appeared to be life-threatening. His condition improved slightly by Wednesday night, as he was upgraded from critical to serious condition at Harborview. He was reportedly alert and responsive by Thursday morning.

The victim is an employee of Camden Garden.
