City of Bellevue offering child care services during teachers' strike

Sep 02 2008

With Bellevue School District teachers on strike, the city is keeping the doors open at the South Bellevue Community Center for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Bellevue's expanded child care day camp starting Tuesday.

If the strike continues, the city will open day camps for children at two other community centers on Thursday. Parents must register their children.

Parents can register online for the Parks day camps at http://www.bellevuewa.gov/parks_homepage.htm, starting Wednesday, or in person at City Hall or any of Bellevue's community centers. Children cannot be registered by phone.

Details:

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Bellevue's expanded day camp will be open at South Bellevue Community Center, 14509 S.E. Newport Way, for elementary-age children starting Tuesday, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The cost will be $40 per day ($20 if already enrolled in Project Learn after-school program). Campers will need to bring their own lunch, but snacks will be provided. For registration information, call 425-452-4240.

If needed, day camps will be provided at Crossroads Community Center, 16000 N.E. 10th St., and Kelsey Creek Park, 410 130th Pl. S.E., for children ages 5-12, starting Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The cost will be $40 per day; scholarships will be available. Campers will need to bring their own lunch, but snacks will be provided.

Space is limited and camps will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. As noted above, registration is required.

City officials say additional support and response will be evaluated based on the longevity of the strike and available resources.
