Bellevue Chamber Chorus reschedules performance

Dec 31 2008

The Bellevue Chamber Chorus has rescheduled its concert this month to Jan. 11 because of the recent snowy weather.

It is the first time in the chorus' 25-year history that it has had to cancel a performance.

The concert, “The World Rejoices,” now will be at 3 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 9625 N.E. Eighth St.

The concert will include an international collection of classic carols, anthems, motets, traditional songs, and new works that celebrate the diverse traditions of the holiday season.

Pieces will include the English Renaissance “O Beatum et Sacrosanctum Diem”, Schutz’ “Ein Kind ist uns geboren” and Howells’ “A Spotless Rose”. The well-known German “Es ist ein Ros’ entsprungen” [Lo, How a Rose e’er Blooming] appears in three musical versions by Praetorius, Distler, and contemporary Sandstrom. “Ave Maria” by Basque composer Javier Busto will be performed as will “De Tierra Lejana”, a Puerto Rican carol, which describes the journey of the Wise Men.

In addition, prayerful “Hanukkah Blessings” by Oregon composer Ron Jeffers will be performed, while “Winter Solstice Moon” is based on Hopi Indian text and musical traditions. A traditional Romanian carol welcomes the New Year, as does Rutter’s arrangement of “Here We Come A-Wassailing.”

Tickets for the original Dec. 20 and 21 dates are valid for the newly scheduled Jan. 11 performance. To purchase tickets, use Brown Paper Tickets, available by phone at 1-800-838-3006 or online at www.brownpapertickets.com. Tickets also may be purchased at the door, or by calling 425-881-0445.
