International scholarships offered young adults
Feb 12 2009
Applications now are being taken for the 2010-11 Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships for young adults of the region. The program, designed to further international goodwill, provides study abroad in one of 190 countries where there are Rotary clubs.
Ambassadors not only study for a year, but also make presentations at local clubs, schools and civic forums to further international exchange and understanding. The maximum award of $23,000 covers transportation, tuition, room, board and language training, when necessary. The scholarships are offered only to non-Rotarians.
Another offshoot program – Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarship – provides as much as $16,000 for six months of intensive language and cultural immersion with a home stay.
To learn details and download an application, go to www.rotary.org. Deadline to apply through Mercer Island Rotary Club is May 15. Local contact is Bob Olson, president, president@mirotary.org; 206.268.2517.
